Traits of a Biblical Woman

So you aspire to be a Proverbs 31 woman? How well do you know her? How do you envision this good woman? Let's evaluate ourselves against her character qualities.

Trait #1 : "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies." Proverbs 31:10 She is obviously seen as extremely rare because there are not many like her. She is far above the usual. Her uniqueness makes her a precious possession to her husband. Is this uncommon trait unique to you?

Trait #2 : "The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil." Proverbs 31:11 This trustworthy lady is so reliable, honest and dependable that she would never say or do anything dishonorable behind her husband's back. What a blessed man it is who can safely trust in this faithful, chaste wife. She is far removed from today's modern, cell phone bound, desperate housewife scenario.

Trait #3 : "She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life." Proverbs 31:12
What a loyal, faithful, constant helpmeet this dear woman is to her husband. Her genuine and enduring love for her man is not the hot one day and cold the next, variety. She does him good all the time.

Trait #4 : "She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands." Proverbs 31:13 This industrious, busy woman is not a lazy female! This willing worker looks for tasks to accomplish that will benefit her family. She is the picture of diligence all wrapped up in a willing spirit.

Trait #5 : "She is like the merchant's ships; she bringeth her food from afar." Proverbs 31:14 This doesn't mean that she is necessarily out running around garage sales and discount stores with her gal pals all the time, but it does mean that she is a frugal, prudent, capable and wise shopper! Her industrious nature is not wasteful with her time or her husband's money. She is definitely looking for a bargain, but she is doing it in a wise and timely way.

Trait #6 : "She riseth also, while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her husband, and a portion to her maidens." Proverbs 31:15 This plan ahead, self-starter riseth and giveth to those around her. This takes a pretty selfless woman to get herself out of bed early to serve her husband and family.

Trait #7 : "She considereth a field and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard." Proverbs 31:16 This enterprising, yet cautious woman is quite resourceful! From this passage we can see that she has an eye for buying property, can plant a cash crop and knows how to multiply her investments. This girl has some entrepreneurial talents that could be the envy of most college business majors! She is not your run of the mill, stay at home mom!

Just in these first seven traits we see a picture of what the Bible calls, a virtuous woman.
How did we do in comparing ourselves to her? Let's give extra attention to developing these traits and next month we will talk about a few more.

If you are a single girl reading this, I encourage you to develop in your character the mindset and abilities of this woman after God's own heart.

Let's strive to mimic this good woman....for the glory of God and for the pleasure of our husband.
